COMMUNITY SERIES FEATURE: RACHAEL STARK

Rachael Stark x Fathom – Flora

Winter has a way of narrowing our focus. Snow, mountains, chairlifts, storms. But for Rachael Stark, the outdoors has always been bigger than a single season.

Stark is a Colorado-based artist whose work highlights the landscapes, flora, and fauna that shape her everyday life. A native Coloradan and lifelong skier, climber, and outdoorswoman, she draws inspiration not only from the grandeur of the American West, but from the quieter details often overlooked. The backyard moments, the in-between seasons, the life that exists beyond peak conditions.

Now based just outside of Steamboat Springs, Colorado, Stark works as a ski patroller, spending her days immersed in the mountains she loves. Her artwork reflects the joy and grounding she finds outdoors, whether she’s skiing powder laps or noticing small signs of change as winter gives way to spring.

That perspective defines Flora.

The Story Behind Flora

For this design, Stark intentionally shifted away from traditional skiing imagery. No mountains. No chairlifts. No snowflakes.

Instead, Flora highlights elements of the natural world that rarely come to mind in winter. Plants, organic shapes, and living forms wrap the strap, serving as a reminder that life continues beyond the snowpack.

The concept is rooted in seasonal change. For many of us, especially skiers, life evolves with the calendar. Seasonal jobs. Seasonal recreation. Seasonal rhythms. There’s an anticipation that builds as one chapter ends and another begins.

Flora is a visual reflection of that cycle. A quiet reminder that winter is just one part of a much larger story.

Finding the Beauty In-Between

Stark’s work often celebrates simplicity. Not in the sense of being minimal, but in the sense of being present. Paying attention to what’s right in front of you.

By focusing on flora and subtle natural details, Flora invites the viewer to consider what exists outside the frame of ski season. The moments before the snow falls. The thaw that follows. The life that reemerges.

It’s a design that feels both grounded and hopeful, anchored in nature but always looking ahead.

This is a limited Community Series release, created to celebrate the full arc of life in the mountains, not just the months we spend sliding downhill.
